The SHLI provided the opportunity for the ASTHO Executive Director to visit new S/THOs, supported S/THO leadership development through an executive leadership institute at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, to offer experienced S/THO mentorships to new S/THOs, and to convene annually in an S/THO-only strategic session. Through the development and use of evidence-based policies, tools, educational resources, programs and clinical preventive services we support the health and development of adolescents, and sexual and reproductive health across the lifespan. I, every single day, look at my calendar for the week and I'm like, "I'm really meeting with that person. And right now, the clinics around the country that are being asked to respond to this crisis are starved for resources. On Friday, Brenda Fitzgerald (SHO-GA) was named CDC Director by Secretary Tom Price. It was a challenging week in Washington this week as we learned of the Senates ACA replacement plans which included elimination of the Public Health and Prevention Fund. We also shared an ASTHO advocacy update. It seeks to address the following questions: NASHP will be drafting the document that will first give an overview of the use of block grants and categorical funding in support of state public health goals, as well as Medicaid waiver authorities that support public health. We have mobilized our members, alumni, coalition partners and other public health advocates and are now working to understand the timing and technicalities of potential PPHF elimination as well as other facets of the Senates draft. I think for the SHOs, for the other state and territorial health officials, my hope is that they would feel listened, that they would feel supported, and that they would feel valued.
